Two men remanded in custody for violent robbery of tourists in Palmanova
A judge has ordered preventive detention without bail for two men aged 28 and 39 following an assault on a couple of German tourists in Palmanova, in the Majorcan municipality of Calvià. The attackers snatched two high-end watches with a combined value exceeding 200,000 euros. The information was published by Majorca Daily Bulletin.
The incident took place on Friday 19 June, when the couple was leaving a venue in the tourist area. At that moment, several individuals attacked them by surprise from behind. After knocking them down, they stole various personal belongings, including the two designer watches.
The Guardia Civil in Calvià immediately launched an investigation which made it possible to locate and arrest two of the alleged perpetrators. The detainees were using forged documentation and had planned to leave the island. Both are of Moroccan origin.
Before the judge, they face three charges: robbery with violence, membership of a criminal organisation, and document forgery. The magistrate ordered that both be remanded in custody without the possibility of bail.
The Judicial Police are continuing their investigations with the aim of recovering the stolen watches. Further arrests cannot be ruled out, as one of the arrested men belonged to a criminal gang.
