In the early hours of Sunday, during the San Antonio celebrations in Etxebarri (Vizcaya), two brothers were arrested following a violent confrontation with officers from the Local Police and the Ertzaintza. A regional police officer suffered a bottle strike to the skull and was taken to a medical centre.
According to naiz, everything began when municipal officers arrested a young man for an alleged attack on authority. When attempting to take the arrested man away, his brother intervened, struck the police vehicle and assaulted a local officer in the face.
When Ertzaintza patrols arrived to reinforce the area, around a hundred attendees at the Kukullaga neighbourhood festivities initiated a barrage of glass containers against the uniformed officers. An ertzaina received an impact to the head that required medical assistance.
The Mobile Brigade was deployed to quell the altercations, which lasted a couple of hours, and the situation normalised at dawn, around six o'clock. The two arrested men spent the night in custody and were released the following day, pending appearance before the judge when required.
