Officers from the National Police detained two women in Pontevedra who were part of a mobile band dedicated to committing thefts in residences. The arrest took place after they were discovered by the owner of a property on Benito Corbal Street as they forced entry. The rapid activation of a police operation allowed officers to intercept them at Plaza de Galicia as they attempted to leave the city.
During a search of their personal belongings, officers found an abundance of specialist material for forcing locks: lockpicks, laminated tools for opening locks using the "impressioning" technique, cash and mobile phones. These tools demonstrated the professionalism of the group's modus operandi, according to reports from ABC.
The investigation began after an increase in break-ins and burglaries in homes across various Galician towns was detected. One of the most significant cases took place in Vigo, where the suspects managed to steal numerous pieces of jewellery and a considerable amount of cash.
The criminal network operated as an itinerant cell that moved through different areas to hinder its location. One part of the group was in charge of committing the robberies, whilst another faction managed accommodation in different locations using fraudulent documentation to evade police control.
The fate of the stolen items followed a defined pattern. The perpetrators of the robberies quickly disposed of the haul, handing it over to third parties with the aim of erasing any trace that could link them to the crimes. In this way, the money and jewels disappeared into parallel circuits before law enforcement could track them.
The detained women were put at the disposal of the judicial authorities, who will decide their procedural status. The National Police do not rule out further arrests as the investigation advances and the remaining members of the network are identified.
