State prosecutors' office forwards to judge Pedraz data on Villafañe's contacts with paramilitary network
The State Prosecutor General's Office submitted on Wednesday to National Court judge Santiago Pedraz data relating to conversations that, in March 2025, high-ranking officials of the prosecutors' office maintained with persons linked to the paramilitary network being investigated by the judge. According to a report by El País, the meetings took place between Diego Villafañe, who at that time held functions in the Technical Secretariat, and Beatriz López Pesquera, on one hand, and Leire Díez alongside Jacobo Teijelo, on the other.
At those meetings, the lawyer informed the representatives of the public prosecution of the alleged commission of unlawful acts by various persons, acts which could have bearing on criminal law. Additionally, Teijelo expressed his intention to file official complaints with the fiscal institution in relation to such conduct.
At both meetings, the woman accompanying the lawyer was presented as an employee of his law firm. It was later discovered that this was Díez, the former member of the Socialist party whom the investigating judge considers a key piece in the scheme intended to obstruct investigations and cases against the PSOE.
Following the meetings, the prosecutors informed Álvaro García Ortiz, who at that time served as the top official of the prosecutors' office, of the content of what had been discussed. The institution maintains that no action was taken because the data provided lacked evidentiary support.
This submission responds to a requirement issued by Pedraz by resolution dated 8 June, in order to determine what links the network had within the Public Prosecutor's Office.
