A Spanish court has agreed that Begoña Gómez, spouse of Government President Pedro Sánchez, will be prosecuted for an alleged corruption offence. Additionally, the judicial ruling prevents her from leaving national territory, according to the order notified this Friday.
Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has instructed Gómez to surrender her travel document and to report to the authorities twice a month until a sentence is issued in the proceedings.
The case has generated strong political repercussions in Spain, as it concerns the partner of the head of the Executive. The investigation centres on alleged irregularities committed during her time in charge of a university research centre.
