Prosecution seeks nine months' prison for 'drug dealer' who escaped in prison bag from Valladolid penal facility
The Valladolid Public Prosecutor's Office has sought nine months' imprisonment for Ángel B.M. and his two cooperators over their escape from the Penitentiary Centre on 14 February 2025.
Oral trial for escape in raffia bag from Valladolid penal facility
The Valladolid Public Prosecutor's Office has sought the opening of oral proceedings and a sentence of nine months' imprisonment for drug trafficker Ángel B.M., accused of a breach of sentence following his escape from Valladolid Penitentiary Centre concealed in the luggage of two inmates. For the cooperators, Daniel B.I. and Cristian B.B., the public prosecution is seeking an identical sentence, according to ABC reporting based on the prosecution document forwarded by Europa Press.
The escape took place on 14 February 2025, between 11.00 and 11.30 hours. Ángel B.M. was serving a 20-year sentence in module 1, with a release date scheduled for 2043. That same day, his two co-accused left the centre having completed their sentences for property offences; both occupied a cell nearby in the same module.
The inmate placed himself inside a large raffia bag, posing as a piece of luggage. His cellmates transported him in a cart to the outside of the centre, taking advantage of a lack of supervision by prison officers.
Security cameras captured movements in the bundle
Recordings from the facility's security systems captured slight movements inside the largest bundle during its transfer. Once outside the compound, the footage showed how the bag was lifted by four people due to its weight and placed on the back seat of a BMW 535 D. A second bag containing the inmate's personal belongings, handed to the cooperators that same morning, was placed in the vehicle's boot.
A subsequent inspection of the cell revealed two other raffia bags with similar characteristics. An expert report confirmed that their dimensions were sufficient to accommodate a person.
Dismissal for two of the investigated individuals
The Public Prosecutor's Office has sought dismissal for Álex R.D. and María del Pilar I.H. as their participation has not been established. Álex R.D. was in module 7 at the time of the events, with no contact with the other parties involved and no presence in the footage. As for María del Pilar I.H., although the car used for the collection is registered in her name, reports from the Civil Guard indicate that the drivers were two unidentified men.
For the trial, the prosecutor has proposed as evidence the interrogation of the three accused, witness statements from an inspector from the General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions, two Civil Guard officers and the head of security at the centre. He has also sought the reproduction of footage from the main entrance and the cellblock descent, along with medical, police and official documents, in addition to the opening of a separate proceeding on pecuniary liability.
Eight months whereabouts unknown
The Public Prosecutor's Office classification comes after, last March, the judge of Court of First Instance number 3 issued an imputation order for breach of sentence against Ángel B.M. and four other presumed participants.
Linked to the clan known as 'Los Hilarios', the drug trafficker remained unlocated for almost eight months. The National Police located him on 1 October 2025 at a restaurant at a petrol station in the province of Toledo.
In a statement given by videoconference on 19 February from Murcia, Ángel B.M. acknowledged to the Court of Instruction number 3 judge his authorship of the crime now imputed to him. The two cooperators, for their part, denied before the judge their participation in the events and maintained that they left the penal facility in regular fashion. However, the videovigilance footage and police statements have proved decisive in putting the three in the dock.
Dismissal of director and failure in protocols
The escape had direct consequences for the penitentiary management of Valladolid. Barely twenty days after the evasion, the Ministry of the Interior ordered the dismissal of the prison director of Villanubla, Carlos Blanco, who had held the position for two decades.
Penitentiary Institutions attributed what occurred to a "multi-agency failure" in the prison's security protocols: the inmate managed to circumvent three checkpoints before leaving the exterior.
