Security Forces Seize 370 Tonnes of Drugs in Spain During 2025
State forces confiscated 370 tonnes of cocaine, hashish, marijuana and heroin in 2025. Andalusia leads in number of arrests with 5,267 detentions.
Record seizures in 2025: 370 tonnes of drugs intercepted in Spain
The State Security Forces and Bodies intercepted a total of 370 tonnes of cocaine, hashish, marijuana and heroin during 2025, according to Google News ES — Crime (es) based on the Annual Drug Statistics 2025, prepared by the Centre for Intelligence Against Terrorism and Organised Crime (CITCO), which is dependent on the Ministry of the Interior.
The summary also includes the seizure of 875,000 cannabis plants, 658,000 ecstasy tablets, 679 kilogrammes of crystal — a form of MDMA — and smaller quantities of other substances present on the illegal market, including pharmaceuticals, anabolic steroids and hashish derivatives.
Hashish, the most seized substance
Hashish once again topped seizures with 257 tonnes intercepted, representing a 29% increase compared to the previous year. The figure, however, falls below records from previous years: 357 tonnes in 2023, 318 in 2022 and 672 in 2021.
In the case of cocaine, the report reflects a 37% fall in seizures. The Ministry of the Interior attributes this decline to sustained police pressure on large-scale drug trafficking networks, especially on Atlantic maritime routes and in operations carried out on merchant vessels, speedboats and containers at Spanish ports.
New substances on CITCO's radar
CITCO warns of an increase in seizures of nitrous oxide, tusi, ketamine and certain opioids, although their total volume remains low in global terms. The authorities have open investigative lines to monitor the penetration of these substances, with special attention to the younger population.
The Ministry of the Interior emphasises that in recent years specific measures against drug trafficking have been promoted, including the prohibition of drug speedboats in 2018 and the criminalisation of the so-called "petaqueo", incorporated into the Criminal Code last April.
Andalusia, the autonomous community with the most detentions
By autonomous communities, Andalusia recorded the highest number of arrests for offences against public health, with 5,267 detentions. This was followed by the Community of Madrid, with 5,238, and the Valencian Community, with 3,968.
The CITCO report, which breaks down the data by communities, provinces and types of substances, does not incorporate seizures carried out by regional police forces.
