Civil Guard recovers 19 stolen motorcycles in Palma destined for Senegal in parts
The Civil Guard found the motorcycles dismantled in an abandoned factory in Selva. A 50-year-old man was detained as part of Operation 'Blackmotor'.
Operation 'Blackmotor': 19 motorcycles stolen in Palma, seized in Selva before being sent to Africa
The Civil Guard has recovered 19 motorcycles stolen in Palma that were ready to be sent to Senegal dismantled in parts, according to reports from the Majorca Daily Bulletin. The vehicles were found in an abandoned factory in Selva, where they had been wholly or partially stripped for parts.
As part of Operation 'Blackmotor', officers detained a 50-year-old man, a resident of Selva, as the suspected person responsible for the custody and management of the motorcycles. The investigation was launched following the detection of an increase in vehicle thefts in Mallorca, particularly of small-capacity scooters.
Civil Guard officers from Inca determined that some of the motorcycles taken in Palma could be being transported to a clandestine workshop in the interior of the island, with the aim of subsequently removing them from Spain. The lead took investigators to the disused factory in Selva, where they found numerous motorcycles, most of them dismantled.
The 19 vehicles were identified using their chassis numbers, as in the majority of cases the registration plates had been removed. The Civil Guard confirmed that all the motorcycles had been stolen in Palma between the months of April and June.
Analysis of the packaging and labelling of some of the components revealed that the parts were destined for Senegal, where they would allegedly be reassembled to be put back into circulation.
The investigation remains open with the aim of identifying the suspected perpetrators of the thefts, and the Civil Guard does not rule out further arrests.
