Rescue in Caldes de Montbui: ten days in captivity and a disappeared cocaine shipment
The National Police freed a man in the province of Barcelona who had been held against his will for ten days, according to reports from Google News ES — Crime (es). The rescue took place at the exact moment the kidnapper was transporting him by vehicle to a remote, mountainous area. The victim showed evident signs of violence after suffering repeated physical assault during his captivity.
The origin of the kidnapping goes back to the alleged loss of a shipment of more than 500 kilos of cocaine that was to be transported by road from Portugal through Spain. The head of the organisation ordered the transfer of the goods to an intermediary driver, who in turn contracted a third party to carry it out. During the journey, this latter driver claimed to have suffered a crash and reported the alleged theft of the drug by third parties. Fearing retaliation, he fled and went into hiding.
Internal mistrust and reprisals within the network
The disappearance of the shipment generated a climate of extreme mistrust among members of the network. Unable to justify the whereabouts of the drug, the main organiser directly held the intermediary driver responsible for what occurred.
At the end of July, the head kidnapped this intermediary violently and held him for ten days. During that period, the victim was subjected to continuous physical assault and threats with the aim of forcing him to reveal the whereabouts of the disappeared transporter and the final destination of the cargo.
Industrial warehouse in Sabadell and vehicle location
After numerous efforts, officers identified an industrial warehouse in Sabadell where they suspected the victim might be found. Under increasing police pressure, the suspect abandoned the location taking the detainee with him, under the pretext of releasing him in an isolated area.
Officers located and fully identified the vehicle in the vicinity of Caldes de Montbui. The driver ignored police indications and attempted on several occasions to hit officers with the vehicle.
Arrested after attempting to wield a pistol
Once the vehicle was intercepted, the kidnapper attempted to seize a firearm that he was carrying concealed in a fanny pack. Officers neutralised, disarmed and immobilised him immediately, proceeding with his arrest and the release of the victim, ending ten days in captivity.
The detainee was placed at the disposal of the judicial authority as the alleged responsible party for the crimes of kidnapping and unlawful possession of weapons.
