The Guardia Civil arrested two men with more than 22 kg of cocaine and 5,000 euros in cash as they disembarked from a ship coming from Gran Canaria.

The Guardia Civil arrested two men at Santa Cruz de Tenerife port after finding more than 22 kilograms of cocaine hidden in their vehicle, according to ABC. The drug has a market value exceeding 1.3 million euros.
The operation took place at a fiscal verification checkpoint set up at the port, upon the arrival of a vessel from Gran Canaria. Officers identified the two occupants of the vehicle as they disembarked and detected irregularities during a brief initial interview.
Both displayed evasive behaviour and gave contradictory and incongruous responses. Faced with suspicions, investigators requested permission to inspect the car and located a large piece of luggage in the boot containing 20 packages wrapped in brown adhesive tape.
A 'Drogatest' drug test performed on site returned a positive result for cocaine. The total weight of the substance amounted to 22 kilograms, and officers also seized almost 5,000 euros in cash.
The two arrested men, along with the proceedings and seized substances, were placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority. The judge ordered both to be remanded in custody. The Guardia Civil states that the operation has enabled the dismantling of a high-purity drug trafficking network.
