Officers from the Scientific Police are investigating an organic sample found on the intimate clothing of the therapist who was killed on Monday at a rehabilitation centre in Valencia. The 32-year-old professional died after being attacked with a knife by the father of a child who was receiving treatment at the same facility, according to ABC.
The attacker, a 24-year-old man, presented himself voluntarily at a police station in Burjassot, located just five kilometres from the crime scene. Near the specialist's body, a 15-centimetre knife was found, the weapon used to inflict the fatal wounds. The therapist has already been given Christian burial and those who knew him remember him as an excellent professional.
According to the detained man's account to officers, he entered the rehabilitation room upon hearing his two-year-old son screaming. Upon looking in, he saw the specialist with his lower garment removed and the child without a nappy, interpreting this as an act of sexual assault. He demanded to see images captured by closed-circuit television, although the clinic did not have such equipment.
So far, the only account of events is that provided by the arrested man himself, as there were no witnesses who directly observed what happened. The Court of First Instance number 11 of the Valencian capital has ordered the proceedings to be kept secret whilst various lines of inquiry are explored that do not depend exclusively on the father's testimony.
The perpetrator is already remanded in custody. At the same time, investigators are extracting and examining the contents of various electronic devices belonging to the deceased to verify whether they contained files of a paedophilic nature.
The newspaper Las Provincias has revealed that the sample sent to laboratories could correspond to seminal fluid, although the analyses have not yet confirmed this theory. The results could clarify what exactly occurred inside the consulting room and validate or disprove the version given by the attacker.
