Fatal hit-and-run in Castelldefels: driver arrested after hitting 16-year-old youth
A 16-year-old youth lost his life in the early hours of Saturday after being struck by a car travelling at high speed on Calle 11 in the Lluminetes neighbourhood in Castelldefels (Baix Llobregat), according to information provided by Castelldefels Local Police.
The alert reached emergency services at approximately 00.05 hours. The vehicle struck the teenager, did not stop and continued until it impacted a tree and a light post at the roundabout on Paseo de la Marina with Calle 11.
The secondary crash caused injuries of varying severity to two other people, who received medical attention at the scene. Following the accident, the driver abandoned the car and fled on foot, according to La Vanguardia.
Officers from Castelldefels Local Police, the Mossos d'Esquadra and personnel from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) travelled to the scene to attend to those affected. The driver was subsequently located and arrested at his residence.
Castelldefels Local Police have assumed the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and have conveyed their condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased youth.
