Trial in Alicante over transporting minor in boat from Algeria for 900 euros
Three defendants face six years in prison for illegally transporting five people, including a minor, from Algeria to the Alicante coast.

Three people—two men and a woman—appeared on Monday in the dock of Section 7 of the Provincial Court of Alicante, based in Elche, accused of illegally transporting five migrants from Algeria to the coast of the province of Alicante. Among those on board the vessel was a minor who, according to the prosecution, paid 900 euros for the journey and was promised a job as a waitress in Spain.
According to ABC, the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) has stated that the boat set sail from Algerian coasts on 14 October 2022 and was intercepted by the Guardia Civil two days later.
The Public Prosecutor's Office is provisionally seeking six years in prison for each of the three defendants for an offence against the rights of foreign citizens. In its written submission, the prosecution states that those on board the vessel faced serious danger: the boat lacked the minimum safety elements necessary to withstand the conditions of the journey and the distance covered.
The trial took place on Monday, 8 June at the Provincial Court of Alicante.
