Civil Guard dismantles criminal group in Tarancón with 13 offences against property
Operation 'Monpetri 11' results in five arrests and 13 offences clarified. The perpetrators, resident in Madrid, used shuttle vehicles and rammed police patrols to flee.
Five arrested following dismantling of burglary and commercial robbery gang in Tarancón area
The Civil Guard in Cuenca has concluded Operation 'Monpetri 11' with the arrest of five people, the investigation of a sixth individual and the referral of a seventh to the courts, according to ABC. The operation forms part of the National Plan against Burglary and Commercial Robbery.
The investigation began at the start of this year, after authorities detected an increase in reports of burglaries with force, theft and criminal damage in the region. The detainees are charged with 13 offences against property and socio-economic order, as well as one offence of assault against agents of the authority.
The ROCA Team of the Tarancón Company determined that the offences were concentrated in towns, residential areas and service stations near the A-3 motorway. Proximity to that route provided the perpetrators with a rapid escape route following each crime.
The investigations made it possible to establish that those responsible were resident in Madrid province and had accumulated numerous police records for similar offences across much of the national territory. The gang employed advanced tactics to evade surveillance: it resorted to shuttle vehicles to detect police presence before acting.
During the operations, members of the group carried out high-risk evasive manoeuvres that hindered their interception. On several occasions they directly rammed police patrols on duty in order to ensure their escape, which prompted the additional charge of assault against agents of the authority.
The complexity of the surveillance prolonged the investigation, given that the targets continually varied their methods to avoid being located. The increased vigilance and successive operations were decisive in identifying the perpetrators and gathering the necessary evidence.
The proceedings, together with the detainees, have been handed over to the Civil and Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance of Tarancón no. 2, which now assumes responsibility for the instruction of the case.
