The National Court, a Spanish tribunal specialising in high-sensitivity matters, announced on Thursday that the two daughters of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero have been charged in the investigation pursuing the former chief executive over alleged influence-trafficking.
Judge José Luis Calama, in charge of directing the inquiries, adopted this measure following a request from the anti-corruption prosecution. In a written submission presented last Tuesday, this body had requested that the daughters of the former socialist leader, together with his secretary, be summoned to testify as charged parties.
This judicial ruling is part of a procedure that points directly at the former prime minister of government between 2004 and 2011. The court has not provided additional information about the facts attributed to him or when Zapatero's family members could appear before the courts.
