Operation against street vending in Plaza del Puerto, Alicante

Google News ES — Crime (es) reports that Alicante Local Police seized more than 3,000 counterfeit products this weekend in an operation against illegal street vending in Plaza del Puerto, carried out in collaboration with Port Police.

Officers inspected three stalls where counterfeit jewellery from brands such as Pandora, Gucci, Swarovski and Louis Vuitton were displayed and stored, as well as counterfeit t-shirts, other textile items and handbags from well-known brands.

Local Police estimated the market value of the seized items would have reached €120,000. Following the operation, officers initiated criminal proceedings for offences against intellectual property against three individuals.

Throughout the summer, the force has intensified surveillance of street vending of counterfeit products in view of increased tourist numbers, particularly on the seafront, promenade and Plaza del Puerto, which has resulted in the seizure of thousands of items.

The Security Councillor, Julio Calero, stated that "it is necessary to combat this illegal practice associated with counterfeiting and offences against intellectual property, as well as labour-related crimes, and which favours the underground economy".
