More drugs seized in Burgos in 2025, but drug-trafficking arrests fall
Burgos registered 93 arrests for drug trafficking in 2025, 6% fewer than the previous year, whilst the quantity of drugs seized increased.
Burgos accounts for almost three-quarters of hashish seized across Castile and León
According to Google News ES — Crime, data published in the Annual Statistics on Drugs by the Intelligence Centre against Terrorism and Organised Crime (CITCO) reveal a singular trend in the province of Burgos: fewer arrests, but more kilograms of drugs seized.
In 2025, 93 people were arrested in Burgos for drug trafficking, representing a 6% decline compared to the 100 arrests recorded the previous year. The province ranks as the second with the highest number of arrests in Castile and León, behind only Valladolid. Across the autonomous community, Segovia registered the largest increase in arrests — 68.57% — whilst León experienced the largest fall, with a decline of 23.53%.
As for reports filed on the same charge, Burgos recorded 2,654 in 2025, 2.53% fewer than in the previous year, though it remains the highest figure across the entire region. In the other provinces, reports increased in the majority of cases: Soria led that growth with 8.17%, whilst Salamanca registered the largest drop, of 10.63%.
Hashish, the province's signature substance
The most striking statistic concerns hashish: almost three-quarters of all hashish seized in Castile and León was seized in Burgos. In concrete figures, over 745 kilograms were seized in 2025. This amount could be even higher in the current year, given that a single police operation resulted in the seizure of 720 kilograms.
Hashish is not the only substance with a disproportionate presence in the province. Ketamine exceeds 90% of the total regional amount seized in Burgos. MDMA, sports anabolics and crack are also among the most seized substances. In terms of volume, hashish, cannabis and cocaine were the most frequent.
The weight of Valladolid and Burgos's role in the community
At regional level, Valladolid leads seizures of cocaine, cannabis and heroin. León heads cannabis seizures, whilst Zamora recorded the largest cocaine haul in the region.
Burgos accounted for 11% of the total cocaine seized in Castile and León and 12% of cannabis. By contrast, its share in heroin and cannabis was significantly lower, at 3%.
In parallel, the Sonorama Ribera festival, held in Aranda de Duero, resulted in three arrests and 31 reports for drug-related offences during its last edition.
