Motorcyclist dead in Barcelona after being struck by hit-and-run driver who was detained
A 38-year-old motorcyclist died on Monday in the Eixample district of Barcelona after being struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene and was detained shortly afterwards.

A 38-year-old motorcyclist died on Monday morning on Aribau Street, at the corner with Mallorca Street, in the Eixample district of Barcelona, after being struck by another vehicle whilst stationary on the road, according to Google News ES — Crime (es). The injured man was taken to a hospital, where he died shortly after admission.
The driver of the car involved abandoned the scene of the accident, but a patrol of the Mossos d'Esquadra intercepted him at the intersection of Aragó Street and Bruc Street. The Guardia Urbana formally detained him and is investigating the driver for refusal to submit to breath-alcohol tests, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, fleeing the scene of the accident, and reckless homicide.
Several units from the Guardia Urbana's Central Traffic Investigation Unit (UCAT) attended the scene to take charge of proceedings and investigate the causes of the accident.
The victim is the eleventh person to die in a traffic accident in Barcelona so far this year. Barcelona City Council expressed its condolences to the relatives and loved ones of the deceased and reaffirmed its commitment to working to reduce road casualties in the city.
