Woman stabbed to death in Isla Cristina: Italian partner detained
A 47-year-old German woman was found dead on Punta del Caimán beach in Huelva. Her partner, a 60-year-old Italian man, was detained as the prime suspect.
Homicide on Isla Cristina beach shocks Huelva residents
The body of a 47-year-old woman, bearing multiple stab wounds, was found on Friday morning on Punta del Caimán beach, also known as Playa de la Gaviota, next to Avenida del Atlántico in Isla Cristina (Huelva), according to El Mundo.
Several residents called 112 at around 9:00 hours after discovering the corpse. When Civil Guard officers arrived at the scene, the alleged perpetrator—her partner, a 60-year-old Italian man—was still at the location with the murder weapon, according to police sources consulted.
The victim was a German national. The couple had their usual residence in Germany and were passing through Isla Cristina during a tourist route in a motorhome through various points on the Peninsula, as confirmed by the Civil Guard in a press statement.
The detainee offered no resistance during the officers' intervention. He has no criminal record in Spanish databases under his name, and the victim was not registered in Spain's Comprehensive System for Gender Violence. The man is expected to appear before a judge in the coming days.
Should the crime's sexist nature be confirmed, it would bring the number of deaths from gender violence so far this year to 37, of which 11 would correspond to Andalusia. The total count since figures began to be recorded in Spain in 2003 would reach 1,378.
The Andalusian Regional Government's councillor for Social Services, Families and Equality, Loles López, commented on the case through social media. "Consternation and sorrow at this terrible deed. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends," she wrote, describing what had occurred as a "possible sexist crime". The Government's Delegation Against Gender Violence also pointed in that direction and reminded citizens of the resources available in situations of abuse or assault.
Victims of gender violence and those around them can request assistance via telephone 016, email [email protected] and a WhatsApp channel on the number 600 000 016, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In case of emergency, 112 can be called, along with 091 (National Police) or 062 (Civil Guard). The ALERTCOPS application furthermore enables sending an alert signal with geolocation to the security forces when it is not possible to make a call.
