A Colombian national immigrant who had moved to Spain together with her three minor children in search of better living conditions was murdered in the Andalusian town of El Viso del Alcor, in the province of Seville. The incident made her the forty-fourth person killed by gender-based violence in the Iberian country during 2025, according to information published by MAGAS on 28 January.
The attack occurred on 6 December at a house situated on Calle Calvario. The deceased, known as Jenny, sustained stabbing wounds resulting from an altercation with a 36-year-old man from Seville, who is being investigated as the principal suspect. Unlike the deceased, this individual was registered in the state system for monitoring gender-based violence due to previous conflicts with another romantic partner.
Following the homicide, the suspect allegedly attempted to conceal what had happened by boarding up the windows with planks and setting fire to a mattress. The column of smoke attracted the attention of several young people passing through the area, who requested the fire service. Upon accessing the location, emergency responders found the woman's body.
Francisco Toscano, representative of the central government in Seville, stated that Jenny was alone when the incident occurred. However, witnesses from the neighbourhood claimed that her eldest child, an eleven-year-old girl, was also inside the building.
The suspect was arrested without offering resistance, his torso uncovered, and was subsequently taken to the mental health service at a provincial hospital, where he remained pending handover to judicial authorities.
A compatriot of the victim, also living in El Viso del Alcor, remembered Jenny as someone of pleasant demeanour and good humour, who especially valued the moments shared with her daughter and her mother, who lived in the same town but at a different address. The deceased worked cleaning homes and, for some time, had been paying rent for one of the rooms in the house that belonged to the now-detained man.
The same acquaintance indicated that the deceased had mentioned to her at some point that she maintained constant arguments with the property owner. "She tolerated the mistreatment because she had no housing alternatives; she needed that space to remain with her daughter," she told the Spanish press.
In the final weeks of the previous year, two of Jenny's children arrived in Seville accompanied by their father on 20 December, with the hope of being reunited with her. The reunion never took place and the children ended up in El Viso del Alcor without being able to see their mother.
The case is added to the register "The Life of Victims", a journalistic platform that documents cases of women murdered by their current or former romantic partners in Spanish territory. Investigators continue working to obtain a final conviction against the arrested man.
