Eleven years in prison for raping a friend in Santiago de Compostela
A court based in the Galician capital has sentenced a man to eleven years in prison who sexually abused an acquaintance. The Provincial High Court of La Coruña found him responsible for a continuing offence of sexual assault with penetration, aggravated by abuse of trust.
According to ABC, the events date from 2024. Both met at a leisure establishment in Compostela. At the end of the evening, after consuming alcohol, the man offered to drive the woman to his home. There he forced her to have sexual relations despite her verbally refusing.
The judges gave full credibility to the account provided by the victim. Eyewitness testimony and a psychological evaluation supported her version, confirming the psychological and physical harm suffered.
The verdict emphasises that the woman did not give her consent at any moment. The friendship bond that united both of them served the court in characterising the conduct as especially reprehensible.
The ruling is subject to appeal before the high court of Galicia. In parallel, the offender must pay compensation to the victim of €50,000. He must also pay a fine for minor injuries.
