Arrested in Zaragoza for abusing his two-year-old daughter and sharing material online

The National Police detained a man in Zaragoza accused of sexually assaulting his two-year-old daughter and distributing images of the abuse through the internet, according to Google News ES — Crime (es) based on a police press release issued on Wednesday.

The operation was completed in less than 24 hours from receipt of the first reports. The detainee was placed at the disposal of the courts as the suspected perpetrator of two counts of sexual assault, one count of corruption of a minor, and one count against privacy, with preventive imprisonment being ordered.

Alerts from the United States activated the investigation

The investigation began after urgently receiving several reports sent by the United States-based organisation National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), channelled through the United States Department of Homeland Security (Homeland Security Investigations). The alerts indicated several files stored on a cloud storage platform that pointed to the possible commission of serious crimes against a minor, with evidence suggesting that the perpetrator was located in Spain and maintained permanent access to the victim.

Investigators immediately began identification procedures, which allowed them to determine that the suspected perpetrator was the baby's own father and that both lived at the same address.

Artificial intelligence tools to generate illicit material

Once the identity of the investigated person and the risk situation for the minor had been confirmed, officers went to the family home, where they proceeded with the arrest. During the search, the girl was placed under police protection whilst various computer devices were seized.

Analysis of those devices made it possible to confirm the existence of substantial material related to child sexual exploitation, allegedly produced, stored and distributed by the detainee. Investigators also found artificial intelligence tools that allegedly had been used to generate images of child sexual exploitation through manipulation of photographs and videos of minors obtained from social media.

Covert recordings of a neighbour

The search also revealed video files that would indicate a crime against privacy: covert recordings made from the investigated person's home towards the adjoining property, capturing images of a neighbour inside her home.

The swift police action, completed in less than 24 hours from receipt of the initial information, made it possible to end the risk situation and guarantee immediate protection of the minor.
