Baker arrested in León: no driving licence, loaded gun and someone else's passport
A man was arrested in León after fleeing from police, assaulting two officers and being found with an unmarked weapon under the seat. A judge released him.

According to leon24horas.net, the early hours of last Friday ended with a man arrested at a police station and two National Police officers treated in Accident and Emergency following a foot chase through the streets of León.
Shortly after 4 a.m., a patrol intercepted a Renault Laguna on Avenida Álvaro López Núñez that was travelling "spinning out and at full speed" along the deserted road. Officers positioned their vehicle to force the driver to stop.
The driver, described by witnesses as "a very tall and heavily built man", got out of the car slowly. "I'm a baker, I'm a baker", he shouted while "anxious and very agitated", according to an account given to the León media outlet by a neighbour. The man then ran off in the direction of Bilbao Street. One of the police officers pursued him.
Three female friends heading home witnessed, "frightened", how the suspect jumped from approximately six metres onto the railway tracks whilst an officer chased him. The pursuit continued until two police officers managed to restrain him near the Arco de la Cárcel, official sources confirmed.
During the arrest, the man struck one of the officers with several punches and lunged at the other, causing him injuries. Both police officers were taken to a medical centre to receive treatment.
Unmarked pistol and ammunition in the vehicle
When officers searched the Renault Laguna, they found beneath the driver's seat a loaded Star pistol with its serial number erased, "like those frequently used by the terrorist group ETA", well-informed sources told leon24horas.net. The weapon was within the driver's immediate reach at all times.
Inside the vehicle, several boxes of ammunition, penknives, a large rod, several mobile phones, a precision scale and another person's passport were also found.
The detainee, a Spanish man of middle age resident in a municipality in the province of León, was driving without a seatbelt and without a driving licence. He was also listed in the Viogén system for the protection of victims of gender-based violence and had numerous previous convictions.
The judge released him
After being taken to the police station and the appropriate procedures being carried out, the man was brought before the courts. In his statement on Saturday, he claimed to have no recollection of what occurred during the early hours of Friday. The judge agreed to his release.
The man faces an investigation for several alleged offences: assault against authority, reckless driving, driving without a licence, traffic safety violations and illegal possession of weapons, among others. The trial, according to the León media outlet, is unlikely to take place in the coming months.
