Couple arrested on suspicion of killing their 18-month-old baby in Tarragona
A couple was arrested in Valencia following a missing child report filed by the child's grandfather. The Mossos inspect a property in Santa Bàrbara but find no human remains.
Arrested in Valencia, case being handled in Amposta
The on-duty magistrate in Valencia ordered on Tuesday afternoon that the couple detained at that city's Estación del Norte be brought before the judge in the case, the judge presiding over Court Number 2 of the Provincial Court of Amposta (Tarragona), who previously issued the search and detention order against both suspects. This is reported by La Vanguardia.
The couple were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the alleged disappearance of their 18-month-old son. The boy's grandfather had filed a missing person report with the Mossos d'Esquadra over the child's disappearance, according to the Catalan News Agency (ACN).
Property sealed with dozens of dogs inside
For several days, officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra have been inspecting a property located near Calle Mayor in Santa Bàrbara, a municipality in the Montsià district, searching for possible remains of the baby. The property has been sealed off since the weekend after approximately thirty dogs were found inside, some dead and the rest in a state of malnutrition. No human remains have been found so far.
The grandfather never got to meet the baby
According to the newspaper Levante, the paternal grandfather told police that his daughter-in-law had informed him of the baby's death and that she had buried it in a cardboard box inside the property. Both the National Police and the Mossos d'Esquadra are working to confirm even the existence of the baby, given that the grandfather never met her, though he did have contact with the couple's other five children.
Case declared confidential in Amposta
The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) confirmed on Wednesday that the instruction court number 2 in Amposta was maintaining an open case declared confidential, linked to the report over the baby's disappearance. It has now been confirmed that it was that same court that issued the detention order against both parents.
