Municipal officers arrested a 25-year-old man after intervening at a home where a woman was being assaulted.
Gijón police arrest young man for gender-based violence in La Calzada neighbourhood
A 25-year-old man was arrested by the Gijón Local Police following an intervention at a property in the La Calzada neighbourhood. The police operation was triggered by an alert from neighbours, who reported screams coming from inside the house, according to RTPA.
Officers attended the scene and forced entry after hearing sounds of a struggle. Inside the property they found a woman on a bed whilst the suspected perpetrator was strangling her. The uniformed officers subdued the man and took him to a care facility, subsequently transferring him to Cabueñes hospital, where he remains under police surveillance.
The victim received treatment at another medical centre and subsequently went to the police station to file the corresponding complaint. The arrested man faces an accusation of gender-based violence.
