In the province of Alicante, agents from the Policía Nacional intervened to seize a red sports car masquerading as a Ferrari 360 Spider. The imitation, constructed with a fibreglass body mounted on a different chassis, was being offered for less than €30,000.

In the province of Alicante, agents from the Policía Nacional intervened to seize a red sports car masquerading as a Ferrari 360 Spider. The imitation, constructed with a fibreglass body mounted on a different chassis, was being offered for less than €30,000.
A sales advertisement alerted investigators. An original Ferrari 360 Spider typically fetches between €70,000 and over €100,000 on the second-hand market. The asking price seemed suspicious from the outset.
Officers located the vehicle circulating through the streets of the area. At first glance, everything appeared authentic: the distinctive red paintwork, the Scuderia emblems, the symbols of the Italian manufacturer and the recognisable shape of the model. Even experts had to look twice to uncover the fraud.
After examining it in detail, officers determined that this was not a genuine Ferrari. The bodywork was made of fibreglass and mounted on the structure of another vehicle. Despite being a replica, it had a registration document and could legally circulate on public roads.
The intervention took place because the car displayed multiple protected logos and symbols belonging to the Ferrari brand. The presence of these elements could constitute a violation of the brand's trademark rights. Officers seized the vehicle and provisionally detained the owner, who has since been released.
The investigation remains open whilst investigators analyse the origin of the replica and the possible existence of a network dedicated to manufacturing or selling counterfeit vehicles.
