Police investigate infiltration of radicals in Ceuta and point to NGO No Name Kitchen
The National Police identify members of No Name Kitchen as responsible for distributing muriatic acid bombs in Ceuta. At least a dozen Moroccans have been detained.
Violent radicals infiltrated amongst Ceuta's migrants: police point to an NGO
According to Google News ES — Crime, the National Police are investigating the infiltration of violent radical elements amongst the migrants remaining in Ceuta since the assault on 30 July. The authorities have already identified several members of the NGO No Name Kitchen as suspected perpetrators in the distribution of homemade devices known as muriatic acid bombs, used in recent days against Ceuta residents and police officers.
Alarms were raised on Friday after large-scale purchases of muriatic acid and aluminium foil were detected in city shops and supermarkets. It was the employees of the establishments themselves who, surprised by the volume purchased, alerted the security forces. According to police sources consulted by The Objective, the buyers were immigrants accompanied by Spanish citizens linked to the said NGO. Both materials, placed inside plastic bottles, generate a small deflagration and release gases when thrown, in a mechanism similar to that of a Molotov cocktail. Large purchases of acetone have also been detected, a substance that can act as a precursor to explosives.
On Thursday, bombs of this type had already been thrown at military personnel deployed in the city. On Friday the incident was repeated, this time against protesters who were protesting about the critical situation facing the autonomous city, a month after the mass entry of approximately 80,000 people from Morocco. The Government puts the number remaining in Ceuta at 5,000; local authorities and security forces put that figure at 10,000. Ceuta residents are demanding their return to Morocco and the dismantling of the irregular settlement on El Trampolín beach, near the Temporary Immigrant Accommodation Centre (CETI), which remains overwhelmed.
To this can be added two ambushes involving stones and sticks suffered by members of the Regulares Corps, several of whom were injured. At least a dozen Moroccans have been detained in connection with the riots.
No Name Kitchen describes itself as an organisation of "activists in defence of the rights of people on the move". Founded in Serbia in 2017, it has been present in Ceuta since 2021. Its website, headed by a Palestinian flag, describes its activity as providing "medical assistance, clothing, food and legal support". Several citizens have alleged that the NGO distributed pepper spray amongst the migrants. On 23 August, two of its members were detained at Benítez Beach accused of resisting authority and encouraging violent groups.
In the early hours of Friday, a female activist of French nationality was detained for assaulting officers and obstructing the actions of security forces in the Benítez neighbourhood, according to El Faro de Ceuta. Following an agreement between the parties, the woman was sentenced to pay a fine of six euros daily for five months, plus 330 euros in respect of civil liability for the injuries caused to an officer.
