Six Latin Kings arrested after assaulting and robbing youths in Pradera de San Isidro
Six members of the Latin Kings gang were arrested after attacking and robbing several youths in San Isidro park in Madrid, according to ABC.
Six detained for assault and robbery in Pradera de San Isidro during dismantling of festival attractions
Six alleged members of the Latin Kings gang were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, 20 May, at around 00:30, in San Isidro park in Madrid, according to ABC. The incidents occurred whilst workers were carrying out dismantling work on the attractions and stalls installed for the weekend festivities.
An initial patrol from Madrid's Municipal Police, belonging to the Carabanchel District Integrated Police Station, was diverting traffic on Calle de la Fragata when two youths leaving the park approached the officers asking for help. One of them had blood stains on his face and clothing. The officers called Samur-Civil Protection.
The injured youth recounted what had happened to the officers: "I was with my friends drinking and a boy approached us and made the typical Latin Kings signals, ordering us to lower our hands showing patria y corona. He punched me in the face and hit me with a bottle on the head. Then a larger group came up and they took my mobile, an iPhone 14, and a speaker; and they took another friend to the back of the park." His companion, a direct witness, confirmed his account and provided a description of the suspects.
Whilst Samur attended to those affected by multiple bruising—without the need for hospital admission—the officers requested additional personnel. A second Municipal Police unit interviewed several passersby who had seen a group of people running in the direction of Calle Vicente Quesada, where they were hiding in some building entrances.
The officers located a third victim within the park, thereby preventing a larger assault. This youth declared that he knew his attackers because they were from the neighbourhood and that he could identify them. In parallel, five of the alleged perpetrators were intercepted and initially accused of assault and robbery with violence. During the search no stolen items were recovered, although subsequently the police found the iPhone discarded in the area.
The sixth detainee was arrested by National Police officers who were in plain clothes. When ordered to stop, the youth ignored the command and ran off until he was caught. To the charges of assault and robbery with violence was added in his case that of serious disobedience.
The six arrested are: three Spanish nationals aged 20, a Venezuelan of the same age—the one who attempted to flee on foot—an 18-year-old Honduran and a 16-year-old Ecuadorian, the sole minor of the group.
The two victims who filed complaints have no links to criminal organisations, according to investigation data. They consist of a 23-year-old Spanish national, another aged 24 born in Equatorial Guinea, and a 25-year-old Ecuadorian.
