A 45-year-old teacher working at a secondary school in Málaga city was arrested in early June following a complaint lodged by an underage student accusing him of sexual abuse. The education authority has temporarily removed him from his teaching duties whilst the judicial investigation is ongoing.
Sources from the National Police confirmed to El Mundo that the arrest took place in the first days of the month. The defendant was released on provisional liberty after making a statement before the judge.
The complainant, a student at the school, recounted that the alleged incidents would have taken place within the school itself, at times when the minor and the teacher were alone together. The newspaper Sur was the first to report the information.
During the first week of June, both the victim and the investigated party made statements as part of the judicial proceedings opened. The General Directorate of Human Resources of the Education Ministry adopted the precautionary measure of separating the teacher from his post, notifying him on 3 June.
The Education Ministry has indicated that it will maintain the suspension for the duration of the judicial proceedings and will make final decisions once the court issues a ruling.
