A court in A Coruña province has sentenced a man to three years in prison for selling cocaine in the Penamoa area, a sector that in the past concentrated much of the city's illegal drug trade. The court ruling also orders him to pay a financial penalty of more than €14,600, an amount corresponding to the estimated value of the goods seized in the illicit operation.
According to La Opinión A Coruña, the police force opened an investigation in the second month of 2025 after receiving information about the presence of a drug distribution point in that area. Officers set up a surveillance operation in the vicinity of the defendant's residence and confirmed that he was delivering packages of narcotics at the entrance of the building and in nearby areas.
During the period from the end of February to mid-March of the previous year, officers seized substances from four customers who had obtained the goods from the accused. Later, in the fourth month, officers accessed the defendant's home, where they found more than fifty grams of cocaine, a precision scale, a blank-firing weapon with four rounds and €6,550 in cash distributed among different rooms.
The man now sentenced had five previous convictions, although none related to drug trafficking. The court order mandates the destruction of the drugs and weapon seized, and directs the confiscated money to the Fund for Seized Assets, which finances addiction prevention initiatives and rehabilitation programmes for people with substance dependency problems.
