A Valencian court has imposed six and a half years in custody on three individuals originally from Colombia who failed in their task of eliminating a businessman from Puçol. The agreement reached with the prosecution has allowed them to avoid a prolonged trial and a far more severe sentence, which initially amounted to around twenty years of imprisonment.
The violent episode dates back to 16 December 2022, when the victim left his home shortly after six in the morning en route to his company. Two of those involved, with their faces hidden beneath full-face helmets, followed him on a motorcycle to the vicinity of the business. There, one of them drew a semi-automatic pistol—modified with a noise suppressor and shortened barrel—and fired at point-blank range at the businessman's head. The bullet did not hit its target. The assailant attempted to fire again, but circumstances beyond his control prevented him from succeeding.
The contract had a price of thirty thousand euros, to be divided among the three executors. As the objective was not achieved, the person who commissioned it only paid fifteen thousand. The victim had previously noticed that a tracking device had been installed in his vehicle, which had alerted him to the danger. Months later, the investigation progressed when one of the failed assassins contacted a more experienced professional to complete the contract.
The judicial ruling establishes four and a half years for attempted homicide and two years for illegal possession of firearms. The reduction is based on partial reparation of the harm—the accused have already paid part of the compensation—and on the withdrawal of the accusation for involvement in a criminal organisation. The defence lawyers were Francisco Vicente Martínez and Sonia García Galiano.
Furthermore, a woman was sentenced to eight months of imprisonment as an accomplice in the crime of unlawful weapons possession, after concealing the pistol in her residence in Sollana. She will not serve the sentence in prison if she maintains irreproachable conduct for two years.
The affected businessman will receive collective compensation of ten thousand euros for the moral damage suffered. Whoever ordered the attack and the exact motive—speculation pointed to romantic revenge—remain undetermined.
