Young man stabbed in Villaverde in another attack attributed to Latin gangs
A 19-year-old Spanish man was gravely wounded after being stabbed at Puente Alcocer Renfe Cercanías station, in the Madrid district of Villaverde, at approximately 00.12 hours on Sunday 24 May. According to ABC, case sources indicate that the Provincial Information Brigade has taken charge of the investigation, as initial evidence points towards members of Latin gangs.
Emergency services received a report that a group of young people had attacked another person next to the bus stop within the transport complex. Samur-Protección Civil doctors and the first officers found the boy lying on the ground covered in blood. He had at least one stab wound to a leg and two to his back, with one lung affected. The initial priority was to stem the bleeding. Several witnesses reported that the attack was preceded by an argument.
The young man was admitted to Madrid's Hospital 12 de Octubre in grave but stable condition, under escort by the Municipal Police. Investigators are reviewing security camera footage installed throughout the transport complex and its surroundings to reconstruct what happened.
The Villaverde district has, for years, been one of the territories contested between the Trinitarios and the Dominican Don't Play, the two Latin gangs with the greatest presence and activity in the region.
The incident comes just days after six alleged members of the Latin Kings were arrested for attacking three men in their twenties at San Isidro park during the dismantling of Madrid's patron saint festivities. The detainees took a mobile phone and a speaker from them, and beat one of them with bottles and blows to the face. Municipal Police arrested five of them at the scene; the National Police captured the sixth when he attempted to flee. One of the detainees is a minor.
