The prosecution is seeking 27 years in prison for a young man accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old minor in A Coruña in 2019, according to ABC. The private accusation raises that request to 30 years. The defence, for its part, is seeking the unconditional acquittal of the defendant.
The facts took place at the victim's home and in a public place, according to the public prosecutor's statement. The document, also reported by Europa Press, states that during that year the defendant and the young woman "maintained a non-cohabiting romantic relationship". "The perpetrator knew the victim's age and that she was a minor", the text specifies.
The prosecution breaks down its request into 14 years and one day in prison for a crime of continuing sexual assault, and an additional 13 years for a second count of sexual assault, both committed against a minor under 16 years of age. In addition, it is seeking compensation of €30,000 for moral damages. The private accusation, meanwhile, is seeking 15 years in prison for each of the two counts.
The defence counsel maintains her request for unconditional acquittal.
The oral hearing was scheduled for this Thursday before the first section of the Provincial Court of A Coruña. The court agreed to hold the trial in closed session to preserve the victim's right to privacy.
