The beaches of the Valencian capital hosted the traditional San Juan celebration on 23 June, an event that drew seventy-five thousand people and required an extensive deployment of law enforcement forces. The balance of the operation, which ran from six in the evening until the following morning, resulted in forty people arrested.
Among the arrests is a teenager accused of sexual assault with penetration. The assaulted woman, who is of legal age, communicated to the authorities her intention to file a complaint.
Agents also proceeded to detain two other individuals for facts related to gender-based violence. In the vicinity of a nightlife venue, a fight broke out in which blunt objects were used; four people were arrested for this incident, one of nine disturbances recorded in the area. Meanwhile, a man was apprehended while forcing his way into a car and, upon being intercepted, injured a National Police officer. Eight further arrests were made for infringements against public health.
The city's Local Police recorded eighteen fights, twenty-one assistances for alcohol abuse, twenty for health problems, four incidents of a sexual nature, eight episodes of gender-based violence and five drink-driving offences. The Red Cross attended to forty-one people for intoxication, twenty-seven for burns, thirty-six for injuries and ten for fainting.
In total, the officers of the Superior Command of the Valencian Community—from Citizen Security, Scientific Police, Judicial, Immigration, Information and the UIP—identified nine hundred and twenty-seven people and issued two hundred and twenty-five sanctions for drugs, weapons and other infractions.
The Town Hall reported that attendance fell by five thousand people compared to the previous year. Cleaning teams removed fifty-eight tonnes of rubbish from the sand.
