The Guardia Civil in Fuenmayor, in the Logroño area, has determined that a Portuguese citizen aged 26 was murdered in an ambush prepared by his lover's husband. The crime took place in the early hours of 28 May.
According to the Guardia Civil's investigation, the perpetrator of the homicide is a 31-year-old man of Ecuadorian origin who discovered that his wife was unfaithful with the victim. After finding out, he forced his partner to arrange a meeting with the young Portuguese man to lure him to the place where death was waiting for him.
The suspect used his wife's mobile phone to send the exact location to the young man. When the latter arrived at the agreed point, the attacker ran him over with his vehicle and then beat him with a blunt object he had picked up from the street.
Following the deadly attack, the man attempted to strangle his partner on two occasions. A neighbour who witnessed the events intervened and managed to stop the assault, thus preventing a double crime.
Guardia Civil officers arrested the alleged killer at the scene of the crime. The judge ordered his remand in custody, communicated and without bail, for the crime of homicide and another of attempted homicide against his wife.
According to Correio da Manhã, the woman had not previously filed any complaints of gender-based violence and was not registered in the VioGén system.
