A French rap artist in his thirties was remanded in custody following his police detention for acts of violence committed in the capital. The incidents occurred during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday in the 18th arrondissement, according to Le HuffPost.
Residents of the neighbourhood contacted police after hearing cries of distress and suspicious noises coming from an apartment. Officers who arrived at the scene were unable to gain entry, so they had to force the door. They discovered a woman severely injured. The individual being sought had fled through a window. He was quickly apprehended in the street and was identified as Mohamed Bellahmed, alias Moha La Squale. Observations revealed that he had consumed alcohol.
According to statements made by the main victim to investigators, she had been in contact with the suspect for a short time. She was at his place in the company of another person, who left after taking drugs. The alleged reason for the dispute was the disappearance of a luxury watch. The man is said to have beaten the young woman, leaving visible marks on her face. The second female present also filed a complaint for having been struck in the face.
Presented to the public prosecutor's office on Friday morning, the accused was due to appear immediately before the court. The magistrates preferred to adjourn the case to 7 August to allow for a psychiatric evaluation. Pending trial, they ordered his imprisonment, deeming him a danger of reoffending and likely to influence the complainants. He faces a sentence of up to six years' imprisonment for aggravated assault by virtue of being intoxicated and recidivism.
The man in his thirties already has previous convictions for similar offences. In July 2024, a Paris court had already punished him for domestic violence, unlawful confinement and death threats. He received a four-year prison sentence, of which twelve months were suspended. His release dated to 25 August 2025, after deduction of the period spent in pre-trial detention before judgment.
