The district court in Nanterre received two new denunciations against artist Patrick Bruel on Friday, 12 June. The information was first revealed by Mediapart and then confirmed to France Télévisions by the office of the lawyer representing the two women.
The first complainant, a 45-year-old psychotherapist named Amandine, alleges that she suffered an attempted rape and sexual touching in 2007 in Réunion, during a film festival sponsored by the musician. The second accuses him of rape and sexual assault committed in 2012.
These new proceedings are added to a legal case already underway. On Wednesday, the 67-year-old singer was questioned by investigating judges, placed under investigation for rape and sexual assault, and then placed under judicial supervision. Four cases justified this placement under investigation, while four others gave him the status of assisted witness. His lawyer, Maître Fanny Colin, indicated on franceinfo that her client entirely rejected the facts alleged against him as well as their legal classification.
Maître Jade Dousselin, counsel for the two new complainants, believes that victims' accounts continue to emerge and that this may only be the beginning. She anticipates rapid developments that could lead to further placements under investigation, whilst emphasising the importance of supporting victims within the judicial sphere, away from media frenzy.
