Racist attack near Paris: shooter had consumed drugs
A 33-year-old man suspected of killing one person and wounding five others on Friday in the Paris suburbs was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the incident. Traces of cocaine and cannabis were detected in his blood, reported news agency DPA, citing the anti-terrorism prosecution office (PNAT).
Investigators are describing this act as a racially motivated terrorist attack. The shooting took place on Friday morning in the communes of Trappes and La Verrière, located south-west of the French capital. According to Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, the attacker used an automatic weapon at three separate sites.
Shortly after the shots were fired, law enforcement apprehended the suspect in the neighbouring commune of Coignières. He was then transferred from his police custody cell to the psychiatric service of the Paris police prefecture. An assessment must determine whether his mental state permits resumption of his interrogation.
Furthermore, three close friends and acquaintances of the man, also placed in detention, remain imprisoned.
