Glorifying terrorism after the Trappes attack

A 64-year-old man was placed in police custody on Saturday for glorifying terrorism, according to BFM TV. He is suspected of publishing a message on TikTok glorifying the racist attack of 23 October in the Yvelines and describing the main suspect, Kévin T., as a "hero".

The investigation was opened following a report on the Pharos platform. The sixty-year-old was detained in Evry (Essonne). According to a police source cited by BFM TV, the man was known to the justice system for common-law offences but was unknown to intelligence services.

On Friday morning, Kévin T., 39 years old, opened fire with an automatic weapon from his car in Trappes and La Verrière. Four people were seriously wounded, including a 12-year-old child. A 26-year-old young man, Pengo Bossio Wangi, was killed.

The main suspect was detained in Coignières and initially placed in police custody. A psychiatric expert examined him on Saturday and requested the lifting of this measure to place him under observation at the Psychiatric Infirmary of the Prefecture of Police for a maximum period of 48 hours. According to a source close to the case, Kévin T. is schizophrenic.

If his psychiatric condition permits at the end of this period, questioning of the suspect will resume. He would notably be questioned about the circumstances of the attack. Otherwise, psychiatric care will be put in place.
