A 23-year-old man was detained on 3 November at his home in Ille-et-Vilaine. The Inter-departmental Directorate of the National Police of Loire-Atlantique (DIPN44) stated that the suspect had filmed himself during the damage on TikTok.

Investigators compared the TikTok videos broadcast live with surveillance camera recordings from the targeted shop. These images show a man hurling insults, making hostile gestures towards police officers and throwing projectiles. They also confirm his participation in breaking into and stealing from the shop, as well as his subsequent posting of the stolen goods on social media.

Alleged offences and next steps

Through cross-referencing, the suspect was formally identified. Police confirmed his involvement in acts of vandalism, insulting law enforcement and theft. A search of his home enabled officers to seize some of the stolen goods and gather additional evidence.

The suspect was referred to Nantes judicial court for an immediate appearance originally scheduled for Wednesday 4 November at 2pm. The public prosecutor of Nantes had not disclosed the outcome of this appearance at the time of publication of this report.
