Trial of 25 defendants in Mykonos drug ring: hearing adjourned to Friday

Adjournment at the Court of Appeal in the "trial of 25" in Mykonos — counsel obstacle halts proceedings

The Athens Court of Appeal did not proceed yesterday, Wednesday, with hearings in the case known as the "trial of 25" in Mykonos, according to Ethnos. The hearing was interrupted due to an obstacle involving counsel for one of the defendants, and a new court date was set for Friday.

The defendants were transported to the courthouse shortly before 09:00, under heightened security measures. Absent from the transfer was businessman Angelos Giannakopoulos, known as "Mr Choriátiko" and the primary defendant in the case.

The core of the case: former officer of Mykonos Subdivision

At the centre of the case file is a former sub-officer of the Mykonos Subdivision, to whom is attributed the direction of a criminal organisation that operated from 2022 to 2025. According to the indictment, the ring exploited access to official data to facilitate the trafficking of narcotics and to serve the business interests of private individuals on the island.

Giannakopoulos faces charges of bribery of a public official. According to the case file, he is alleged to have paid the sub-officer at least 300 euros monthly in exchange for confidential official information — including details of vehicle owners via licence plate numbers — as well as timely warnings of surprise checks by the Greek police in a nightclub he operated in Mykonos.

Money to keep officer on the island

At the same time, Giannakopoulos is accused of offering 3,000 euros to facilitate a mutual transfer, so that the specific officer would continue to serve in Mykonos and be able to provide the same services.

Senior constables and sub-officer from Drug Enforcement in the indictment

The indictment is not limited to the two main protagonists. Senior constables are alleged to have assisted in the trafficking of narcotics, whilst among the defendants is also a sub-officer from the Drug Enforcement Division of Attica. The latter is accused of misappropriating undeclared quantities of seized narcotics and channelling them to an informant for resale on the market.
