Murtzoukou in dock for three infant murders

The high-profile case of Irini Murtzoukou opens today, 4 November 2026, at the Mixed Jury Court of Patras, according to Newsit.gr. The 25-year-old is accused of the murders of three infants — crimes to which she has already confessed — whilst simultaneously denying any involvement in the death of young Panagiotakis.

The accused has been held in Elaionia prison since last September, following her transfer from Korydallos prison. The trial is expected to clarify both the circumstances of the infants' deaths and Murtzoukou's behaviour in recent years.

The Misdemeanour Court Council of Achaia adopted the prosecutor's proposal in its entirety and issued a committal order against her. In her proposal, the prosecutor describes the accused as "an organised, particularly calculating, violent, merciless, unscrupulous and extremely dangerous person".

In the reasoning of the order it is stated that the 25-year-old "enjoyed her victims, defenceless in her hands, without any remorse". The defence's claim regarding reduced liability is completely rejected. The order covers a series of serious cases spanning from 2020 onwards.

The prosecutor's proposal also speaks of Murtzoukou's inability to develop substantial emotional bonds with people in her surroundings — a factor that is expected to play a central role in the proceedings.
