Aigion: Key witness returns to investigating authorities a week after double homicide
According to newsit.gr, seven days after the double homicide in Longos Aigion, investigations continue at an unrelenting pace. A 65-year-old Italian is accused of killing his 54-year-old partner and her 26-year-old son.
The couple's neighbour, who was the first to witness the crime scene, is expected to appear before investigating authorities in the coming hours to give a supplementary statement. This person received a telephone call from the 65-year-old Italian in the early hours of Tuesday, 9 June 2026, who was asking for help. Upon arriving at the house, he found the mother and son dead, whilst the Italian was in a state of shock, claiming he did not know what had happened. The neighbour immediately notified the police.
The 65-year-old, who remains in pre-trial detention, continues to assert his innocence and through his lawyers is requesting that even the medical records of the two victims be examined.
At the crime scene are two officers from the Homicide Department of Attica, as well as officers from the Forensic Laboratories and investigation services of the police. The authorities are searching for, among other things, the shattered mobile telephone of the 54-year-old, as well as biological material or objects that will strengthen the case.
Results are also expected from DNA samples taken from the fingernails of the 54-year-old. If genetic material belonging to the accused is found, this would indicate physical resistance on the part of the victim during the attack.
Meanwhile, the forensic laboratories are processing gunpowder samples that were possibly found on the Italian's hands. In the event of a positive result, it would scientifically prove that the 65-year-old fired a flare gun at 26-year-old Olympios.
