A 65-year-old Italian national arrested over the deaths of his 54-year-old partner and her 26-year-old son at a residence in Aigio is undergoing judicial investigation. He rejects any involvement, contending that the two victims ended their lives by killing each other.
According to reporting by Reader.gr, the defence strategy rests on two main pillars: first, that the accused had not consumed alcohol on the fatal night, and second, that forensic examination found no lacerations on his extremities nor signs of struggle on his body. His side also cites the woman's psychiatric problems and the young man's substance dependency.
Evidence from the crime scene, however, creates serious doubts about this account. The young man had been shot while sleeping and had suffered multiple blade wounds to his thorax. Experts who examined the bodies believe the injuries are inconsistent with the theory of mutual killing. Additionally, the position of the woman's body near the door does not support the scenario that the perpetrator left the room after the confrontation.
Of particular interest is the presence of alcohol at the scene and on the arrested man, despite his own assurances to the contrary. Experts in criminology note that alcohol can partially or completely erase fingerprint traces, depending on the material of the surface and the volume of liquid.
The accused is said to have told authorities that he maintained a close relationship with the woman and had spent four months with her in his home country. His solicitor has requested that the health files of the deceased be made public from the start of proceedings.
Forensic laboratories are examining biological material found on the 65-year-old's clothing and items, whilst police authorities continue gathering evidence.
