New details have emerged regarding the double crime that shocked public opinion in Lungo, Aigialeia, where a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son were found dead. The woman's partner, a 65-year-old man from Italy, is being held as the primary suspect.
According to reports from iefimerida.gr, testimony presented to authorities states that the accused had asked a third party, two days before the murder, to take a firearm to a gunsmith in the Aigion area in order to make it functional again.
The same individual who provided this testimony is reported to have been the first person the 65-year-old called by telephone after the incident to inform him that he had found his partner and her son dead. This fact raises questions among investigators about why the suspect did not immediately contact the police or emergency medical services.
The Italian is already being held in a correctional facility. He categorically denies any connection to the crimes. He claims that he had no financial motives and that he had deep feelings for the victim and her child.
The investigation by prosecutors has not found to date any trace of an additional person at the scene of the incident, other than the three family members. Furthermore, the forensic examination rules out the possibility that the mother and son came into fatal conflict with each other.
Laboratory findings are expected to determine to a large extent the course of the legal proceedings. Officers handling the case believe that the perpetrator had sufficient time to eliminate evidence, which may explain the lack of ammunition in the hands of the detainee.
Particular significance is being attached to the results of molecular analysis obtained from samples taken from beneath the fingernails of the 54-year-old. However, officials of the Greek Police estimate that biological material from the arrested man may not be found, given that the autopsy showed no signs of physical altercation on his body.
Conclusions are also awaited from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation regarding the overall condition of the residence, which is reported to show signs of tampering following the incident.
The 65-year-old has not provided adequate explanations for items missing from the property, nor for the woman's mobile phone, of which only a part was found hidden in a bookshelf unit.
