Explosion in Kolonos: Drugs and explosive device – terrorism scenario ruled out
A bag containing narcotic substances, an electric detonator, batteries and low-power explosive material exploded in a residential building in Kolonos, resulting in injuries to two police officers and two civilians, according to In.gr.
The building manager called the police emergency number 100 reporting that a bag containing drugs was located next to the lift on the ground floor. Two police officers – a man and a woman – attended the scene. The male officer picked up the bag and at the moment he was examining it, the explosion occurred.
Among the injured is the building manager himself who had called the police. This fact rules out, according to In.gr, the scenario that someone was attempting to lure the police officers into a deadly trap.
From the inspection carried out at the scene, a precision scale was also found along with the narcotic substances. Witnesses stated that the detonator with a red button was not hidden, but visible.
Based on initial findings, the case appears to be connected to criminal activity, although it has not yet been clarified why the explosive device was found together with the drugs. The investigation was taken over by the Organised Crime Directorate and the Homicide Division. The Counter-Terrorism Service was informed from the outset, but did not assume the case.
