Authorities have arrested two men who buried their mother in an adjacent field in Amalias. The body was transferred to the Coroner's Service in Patras for autopsy.

Exhumation of 79-year-old in Amalias — two sons in custody
Two men were arrested in Amalias on Wednesday 21 October after it was established that they had buried their mother, aged 79, in a field next to the family home without following the required legal procedure. According to Dikastiko.gr, the woman's body was transferred to the Coroner's Service in Patras for autopsy, with the aim of establishing the causes of death.
The exhumation was carried out on Wednesday morning in the presence of a coroner and police forces. During the procedure it was found that the pit in which the body had been placed had a depth of approximately 50 centimetres.
The role of the third son
The case came to light when a third son of the woman, who is said to have disagreed with his brothers' decision, filed a complaint with the police on Tuesday evening. The complaint immediately mobilised the police authorities of Elis, who began the necessary procedures for the exhumation.
According to initial information, the two sons cited financial hardship to cover funeral expenses and decided to bury their mother themselves in the field. The elderly woman had health problems and, based on information so far, died shortly after midnight on Monday. The two sons wrapped the body in a blanket before placing it in the pit.
Dual criminal proceedings — investigations continue
As reported by Elis Campos News, the two men were arrested as part of expedited proceedings. Criminal charges were brought against them for failure to report a death. In parallel, a second criminal investigation is being opened into the circumstances of the 79-year-old's death. The arrested men were transferred to the Police Station in Pyrgos.
An investigation carried out at the elderly woman's home revealed no evidence suggesting criminal conduct. Initial indications point towards natural causes of death; however, a final coroner's conclusion has not yet been issued. Police investigations at the family residence have been completed.
The autopsy report from Patras is expected to clarify the circumstances of death and to rule out or confirm possible criminal involvement. The investigation into the case continues.
