Arson in Glyfada: "I will kill you" — the threats before the petrol attack

A scene of total devastation prevails in the apartment of the ex-partner of the 46-year-old naval officer in Glyfada, after the suspect set fire to it using a petrol can and tinder. According to To Vima, the owner of the house gave a statement to police and spoke to Live News, revealing that the 46-year-old had threatened her repeatedly during quarrels.

"I was at work and at some point I open the camera app and I see that from the two cameras I cannot see anything, I have no image," the woman said. "I call my sister, who lives upstairs, and as soon as she picks up she tells me 'he set fire to us, he set fire to the house'".

She also mentioned that police took her to give a statement at her workplace. "I never expected things I saw on television to happen to me," she said. "In a row, he told me 'I will kill you'. Twice in October."

"By a miracle my daughter was not inside"

The woman had requested to separate from early October. The 36-year-old's father described to Live News a picture of prolonged harassment: the 46-year-old constantly bothered her, threatened her, and refused to leave her house.

"He had violent behaviour. He threatened her. He had some red flags. I'm learning about them now too," said the father. "Throughout October they had rows and commotion and she told him to leave the house. In the last week she told him to pack his things and go."

He emphasised that his daughter had escaped by chance: "By a miracle my daughter was not inside."

Premeditated move under the pretext of keys

The woman had moved to her parents' house over the last ten days. Procedures for protective measures had already been initiated, and Saturday was the final date for the 46-year-old to retrieve his belongings and leave permanently.

The evening before the attack, the suspect entered the apartment on the pretext that he would return the keys. "Around 8 p.m. He parked a little further away, came, entered. He had premeditated it," testified the victim's father.

The authorities are investigating the circumstances of the attack, while the case highlights once again the cycle of domestic violence that often precedes extreme acts.
