Ten remanded in custody in the "Horiátiko" case – Further arrests expected
An accountant, the daughter of the defendant chief accountant, was sent to prison, bringing the total number of people held in remand to ten, according to ERT. Her father was placed under house arrest due to his age and health problems, after first giving his testimony before the investigating magistrate.
The case file includes approximately 90 additional persons, beyond those for whom arrest warrants have already been issued. Judicial and police developments are expected in the coming period, with new warrants, arrests and summonses before the investigating magistrate.
The process of testimony remains ongoing. The second group consists of 29 defendants – businesspeople, accountants, nominal company representatives and employees – who, according to the case file, formed the operational core of the organisation. The majority of them deny the charges of criminal organisation, claiming they carried out orders in exchange for low fees or salaries.
In the hideouts of bakery owner Angelos Giannakópoulos, the Hellenic Police found luxury cars, gold sovereigns and expensive watches. Giannakópoulos, who lived in luxury, is reported to have debts of €95.5 million.
The case extends beyond Attica. A significant part of the alleged criminal activity is identified in Rhodes, where more than ten people have been arrested. According to investigative findings, Giannakópoulos had developed business activities on the island, maintaining collaborations with persons included in the case file.
Among those already remanded in custody are Giannakópoulos himself, former DEI trade unionist Rízos Rízos, as well as a person with the nickname "Ákis", who is reported to have provided protection services to the businessman. In contrast, Giannakópoulos' son was released with restrictive conditions and a monetary bond of €20,000. During his testimony, he claimed that he worked as an employee at his father's company and that decisions were made exclusively by his father.
Still missing is 52-year-old Ígkor, who is reported to have been the right-hand man of the person whom the authorities consider the brain of the organisation.
The judicial proceedings are expected to be lengthy. Testimony continues, with attention focused both on the completion of the first phase and on the progress of the investigation into the remaining persons included in the case file.
