Arrests in Attica for fraud impersonating electricity company employees

Four members of a criminal organisation, aged 20, 32, 38 and 39, were arrested by the Department for Prosecution and Investigation of Crimes in Nea Philadelphia–Nea Chalkidona, following an investigation into a series of thefts and frauds against residents of Attica. The total illicit proceeds exceeded €227,000, according to To Vima.

Criminal charges were brought against those arrested for forming and participating in a criminal organisation, aggravated thefts, robbery, fraud with persistence and by profession, as well as for money laundering from criminal activities.

The telephone centre in Western Attica

According to the Hellenic Police, the organisation had been active at least since September 2026. As their operational base, they used a residence in Western Attica, which they had converted into a telephone centre. From there they made calls using telephone connections registered in non-existent names.

The perpetrators presented themselves to victims as employees of an electricity supply company and invoked various pretexts – mainly alleged electricity leaks. In this way they persuaded residents to gather jewellery and money and place them in a specific location within their homes.

The method of entry and removal of items

The perpetrators then asked the victims to go to another room or space and leave the main entrance open. At that point, their associates would approach the residences on foot, enter and remove the items that had been placed there beforehand.

During their operations, the members of the organisation took measures to conceal their identifying characteristics. For transportation they used a vehicle owned by the 39-year-old arrested.

One robbery and 15 thefts solved

So far one case of robbery and 15 cases of theft have been solved across various areas of Attica. The total illicit financial gain exceeds €227,000. The four arrested were brought before the competent prosecutor.
